ICARDA

Long name:
International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas

The mission of ICARDA is to contribute to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through research and partnerships to achieve sustainable increases in agricultural productivity and income, while ensuring the efficient and more equitable use and conservation of natural resources.

ICARDA works with a tight focus on the problem-solving needs of resource-poor farmers. It does this through in-field delivery of its research outputs – Research to Action.

Global food production has increased by 20% in the past decade – but food insecurity and poverty remain widespread, while the natural resource base continues to decline.

International research centers such as ICARDA, which have helped drive previous improvements, continue to deliver new technologies to support sustainable growth in agriculture, and crucially, to work with a wide range of partners to accelerate the dissemination of these technologies.

Research and training activities cover crop improvement, water and land management, integrated crop-livestock-rangeland management, climate change adaptation, and much more.

ICARDA is a member of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, supported by the CGIAR Fund.
